Arizona's Family reported William McGinty was booked on second-degree murder after a Scottsdale shooting he called self-defense.

Veronica Stracqualursi, Mitchell Koch, and Alexis Cortez reported Nov. 3, 2026, that William McGinty, 43, told a 911 operator he used "my pistol," and that he is held on a $1 million bond. FOX 10 Phoenix printed William E. McGinty, around 2:20 p.m., and no bond. ABC15 printed William McGinty, no middle initial, and no self-defense account. The man who died is not named on those pages.

Booked on one count of second-degree murder is what Arizona's Family and ABC15 print. FOX 10 Phoenix prints that he is accused of second-degree murder and that he was booked into jail. All three say the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will still make the charging decision. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., and around 2:20 p.m., are not the same clock. A self-defense account is his statement in court documents, as Arizona's Family describes them. It is not a finding.

Arizona's Family, by Veronica Stracqualursi, Mitchell Koch, and Alexis Cortez, published Nov. 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. MST, reported William McGinty, 43, was arrested after a shooting that left a man dead in Scottsdale Tuesday afternoon. An update line on that page did not print an absolute clock. It reported court documents say that shortly before 2:30 p.m. he called 911 about a "road rage" near 87th Street and Cactus Road, just west of the Loop 101, and that he claimed another person was "road raging" at him and that he had to "defend" himself. It reported he told the operator he defended himself with "my pistol," that he admitted shooting the victim, that he said he did not see that the victim had any weapons, and that he said he never got out of his car and would wait inside his vehicle. It reported officers detained him with his hands up outside of the window. It reported the victim was found lying face up and had been shot in the chest and back, according to court paperwork, and that emergency crews took him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. It reported Scottsdale police said his name will not be released out of respect to the family. FOX 10 Phoenix, by Jessica Johnson and Brent Corrado, published Nov. 3, 2026, at 7:45 p.m. MST and updated Nov. 4, 2026, at 11:08 a.m. MST, reported the Nov. 3 shooting happened at around 2:20 p.m. following a reported road-rage encounter on the Loop 101, and that 43-year-old William E. McGinty and the victim stopped near 87th Street and Cactus Road when shots were fired. William E. McGinty, and William McGinty, are not the same fullness of the name. Around 2:20 p.m., and shortly before 2:30 p.m., are not the same clock. FOX 10 Phoenix does not print a pistol, hands up, face up, the chest, the back, or a bond. It quoted police: "McGinty remained at the scene and called 911 to report the shooting," and, "Responding officers detained him, and he was subsequently arrested." It reported the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died, that authorities did not identify him, and that the exact motive was not detailed. ABC15, by abc15.com staff, on a page whose byline did not print a clock, reported officers responded near 87th Street and Cactus Road around 2:20 p.m., found a man with gunshot wounds, and that first responders took him to the hospital, where he later died. Gunshot wounds, on ABC15, and shot in the chest and back, on Arizona's Family, are not the same wound line. FOX 10 Phoenix does not print a number of wounds. ABC15 reported the victim's name has not been publicly released, and that 43-year-old William McGinty, with no middle initial, had stopped near 87th Street and Cactus after a "reported road rage encounter" beginning on the Loop 101. Just west of the Loop 101, on Arizona's Family, and beginning on the Loop 101, on ABC15, and on the Loop 101, on FOX 10 Phoenix, are not the same place line for where the driving started.

What he told police, on Arizona's Family, is a longer account than the 911 lines. It reported he said he was driving on the Loop 101 and tried to exit at Cactus Road, that the victim would not let him merge, that they argued while driving until both exited, that the victim cut him off and pulled in front of him, and that the victim got out and walked up to his door yelling, "get the [expletive] out," multiple times. The brackets are on that page. It reported he said he grabbed his gun, held it against his chest, and told the victim, "I don't want no beef," and that he fired one shot as the victim appeared to prepare to punch his window, then a second shot as the victim turned toward him again. It reported he claimed the gun malfunctioned after the first shot and that he removed a screw from a suppressor attached to the barrel before the second shot. FOX 10 Phoenix and ABC15 do not print a suppressor, a screw, two shots, or those quotations. Arizona's Family reported investigators found no damage to either vehicle and no broken glass, that traffic cameras captured the two vehicles, and that authorities noted "no aggressive driving behavior" was seen in either driver. No aggressive driving on the cameras, and a road-rage account in his statement, are both on that page. They are not the same description of the drive. FOX 10 Phoenix's headline says a possible road rage shooting. Its brief says the gunfire may have stemmed from road rage. ABC15's headline says a possible Scottsdale road rage shooting, and the lede says an apparent road rage shooting. Possible, may have stemmed, and apparent are not the same word. Arizona's Family's headline says he claims self-defense.

The charging line is not one status. Arizona's Family reported he was booked on one count of second-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond, and that Scottsdale police say the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review the case and make the final charging decision. ABC15 reported he was later booked into a Maricopa County jail on one count of second-degree murder, and it quoted officials: "The Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review the case and make the final determination regarding criminal charges against McGinty." FOX 10 Phoenix reported he was booked into jail, that he is accused of second-degree murder, and that police say the office will review the case "and make the final determination regarding criminal charges against McGinty." A Maricopa County jail, and jail with no county printed, are not the same custody line. One count, on Arizona's Family and ABC15, is not a phrase FOX 10 Phoenix prints. A $1 million bond is Arizona's Family. It is not on FOX 10 Phoenix or ABC15. Booked on the count, and a final decision the pages say the county attorney will still make, are both printed. A review that has not been described as finished is not a conviction. ABC15 reported police took the suspect into custody at the scene and that the incident appeared to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community. FOX 10 Phoenix's brief says authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident with no threat to the community. Arizona's Family does not print that no-threat line. It printed a Scottsdale police statement: "Our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones as they grieve this tragic loss. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and we ask that their wishes be respected." The man who died is not named on any of these pages. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WJLA says Judge Neal Kravitz found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. NBC4 says he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Voluntary manslaughter while armed, and voluntary manslaughter, and manslaughter, are not the same count. A bench outside Father O'Connell Hall, and a park on the campus, and a small plaza by that hall, and the 600 block of Alumni Lane, are not the same place. Brookland-CUA Metro, and Brookland Metro, and Brookland-Catholic University Metro, are not the same station line. Snapchat messages, and a message, and an urgent message, are not the same account. Cash App, and cash app, and $300 with no app named, are not the same line. Judge Kravitz accepted the plea and found Jaime Macedo guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed. A 12-to-15-year range is not the sentence. Sentencing has not happened.
