An arraignment is the first court appearance on the charges. syracuse.com's Tuesday story does not report a plea. The same paper's Oct. 7 story said he was 23 in the text and 22 under the police photo. CNY Central's May story spelled the name Divintae and used 22.
syracuse.com reported Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, that Divinetae Toatley, 23, was arraigned after being returned to Syracuse from South Carolina. The paper reported he was arrested earlier this month in Columbia, South Carolina, by a U.S. Marshals Service task force, which Sgt. Thomas Blake, a Syracuse police spokesperson, confirmed, and that he was brought to the Justice Center jail Monday night. It reported he is held there without bail. It reported he and Shaquan Hyppolite, 27, of Syracuse, are accused of fatally shooting Deron McGee, 39, of Syracuse, on the 200 block of Warner Avenue in April. Both are charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The paper reported Hyppolite was found in New Jersey in May and extradited to Syracuse in June, and that he is held at the Jamesville Correctional Facility.
The October account of the arrest, also on syracuse.com, said Toatley, 23, of Syracuse, was taken into custody in Columbia on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and was then awaiting extradition. The photo caption on that story still described him as 22. CNY Central's May 20 story, when police said they were still looking for him, spelled the name Divintae Toatley and used 22, and it used Deron L. McGee. The October syracuse.com story and Tuesday's arraignment story spell Divinetae and, in the text, use 23. CNY Central's Oct. 8 story also used 23 and Divinetae, and it reported the Columbia arrest was Wednesday, Oct. 7. Age 22 and age 23 are both in the public record this year. The spelling Divintae is the May CNY Central story. The later stories use Divinetae.
The shooting accounts agree on the day and not on every detail of the clock or the wounds. syracuse.com's Oct. 7 story reported it happened shortly after 3 p.m. on April 8 in the 200 block of Warner Avenue. CNY Central's Oct. 8 story reported officers responded around 3:02 p.m. CNY Central's May story reported officers convened on Warner and Webster avenues around 3 p.m. syracuse.com reported callers told the Onondaga County 911 Center that a group of people ran after the shots, and that a man was seen fleeing with a gun. That is a dispatch account. It is not an identification of who held the gun. syracuse.com reported police found McGee with a gunshot wound. CNY Central's May story reported the wound was to the chest and that he was pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital. The Oct. 7 syracuse.com story reported he was taken to that hospital and later died. A child was also hurt. syracuse.com reported a 10-year-old child's leg was grazed by a bullet. Tuesday's story reported a child was grazed by a bullet. CNY Central's Oct. 8 story reported police described a child's injury as minor and said the child was treated and was in stable condition. The child is not named here.
Tuesday's story, citing a criminal complaint filed in Syracuse City Court, reported police found 18 shell casings and several projectiles embedded in the ground, and that at least one vehicle was hit. CNY Central's May story reported Hyppolite was taken into custody by the Jersey City Police Department and held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending extradition. Tuesday's syracuse.com story reports the extradition as completed in June and the holding place now as Jamesville. The complaint and the charges are what police put in front of a court. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

An FBI agent fatally shot Chadwick Clark during a Dixmoor warrant operation, and the FBI says the shooting is under review.
The FBI account is an agent-involved shooting, one person dead, no agent hurt, and an internal review. The family's account that Clark was unarmed, and a police source's count of people in custody, are not in the FBI statement. A review is not a charge.

Chief Judge Leigh Martin May sentenced Edwin Brant Frost IV to 15 years in the First Liberty fraud.
Monday's term is the sentence on a guilty plea to one count of wire fraud. It is not a jury verdict. The U.S. Attorney's Office, FOX 5 Atlanta, and The Citizen print the same restitution figure. The Newnan Times-Herald prints a figure that is fifty dollars lower.
