The Daily Herald reported Jonathon Skroko was sentenced to 76 years in the killing of Robbie Dickerson.
The Daily Herald reported Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, that a Lake County judge on Tuesday sentenced Jonathon Skroko, of South Elgin, to 76 years for the 2022 Antioch killing of Robbie Dickerson, 42. Patch, citing the Lake County state's attorney's office, spelled the name Johnathan, gave his age as 29, and split the term into 51 years plus 25. Lake and McHenry County Scanner named Judge Mark Levitt. The Daily Herald reported codefendant Hailey Miller was sentenced to 24 years.

Tuesday's 76-year term is the sentence. The Daily Herald printed 76 years and did not print the 51-plus-25 split. Patch and the Scanner did. Jonathon, Johnathan, Johnathon, and Jonathan are four spellings in the pages below. Miller's 24 years are a different case. A motion asking a judge to reconsider her term is not a new sentence.
The Daily Herald reported Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, in a story by Harris Horowitz posted at 1:29 p.m., that a Lake County judge on Tuesday sentenced a South Elgin man to 76 years in prison for a fatal 2022 shooting during a robbery in Antioch. The story spelled his name Jonathon Skroko. It did not print an age, a middle initial, or the judge's name. It reported he was convicted of first-degree murder in August after a five-day trial in the killing of Robbie Dickerson, 42, during a drug sale that turned into a holdup. It reported prosecutors, citing a news release from the Lake County state's attorney's office, had asked for a sentence that reflected the seriousness of the crime, and that they argued his criminal history, lack of remorse, and continued criminal conduct in jail showed a disregard for public safety. Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said after the sentencing, "This offender attempted to justify his actions and blame the victim for this terrible crime," and that the office believes the sentence reflects the severity of his conduct, the Daily Herald reported.
Patch, in a story by Amie Schaenzer posted Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, at 3:38 p.m. CT, spelled the name Johnathan Skroko and reported he is 29. Patch attributed the sentence to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office and reported he received 51 years for first-degree murder plus 25 years for personally discharging a firearm, for 76 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Patch reported the judge cited repeated criminal behavior and called the violence completely unnecessary, and it named Assistant State's Attorneys Lauren Kalcheim Rothenberg and Daniel Lenzini. Patch did not print the judge's name. Lake and McHenry County Scanner, in a story by Sam Borcia published Oct. 28, 2026, at 6:49 p.m., spelled the name Johnathan N. Skroko, reported he is 29 and from South Elgin, and reported Lake County Judge Mark Levitt imposed the 51 years plus 25 years on Tuesday. The Scanner reported truth-in-sentencing rules require him to serve 100 percent of the term. Jonathon, Johnathan, and Johnathan N. are not the same spelling. Seventy-six years, and 51 plus 25, are the same total only if the split is added. The Daily Herald did not print the split. Shaw Local, in a Sept. 3, 2026, story on the August conviction, captioned a booking photo Jonathan Skroko and wrote Johnathon Skroko, 28, in the text. Twenty-eight, in September, and 29, in the October sentence stories that print an age, are not the same age. The Daily Herald printed neither.
The Daily Herald reported codefendant Hailey Miller testified that Skroko told her he intended to rob Dickerson when Dickerson arrived at her apartment on Sept. 5, 2022, to sell her prescription drug, and that Skroko confronted him with a firearm and shot him twice. It reported a witness who had accompanied Dickerson waited outside, heard two gunshots, and called 911, and that officers found Dickerson face down in a bathtub. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Scanner identified that outside witness as Dickerson's girlfriend and did not print her name. A witness and a girlfriend are not the same description. The Daily Herald reported Skroko testified he acted in self-defense and that Dickerson lunged at him, and that prosecutors said the testimony was inconsistent with the physical evidence. It reported his DNA was found on the murder weapon, and that the two were arrested two days later at a hotel in Gurnee. The Scanner put that hotel near Route 41 and Grand Avenue and reported five guns were recovered, including some dumped in Busse Woods. The Daily Herald did not print Busse Woods. Patch reported the jury found him guilty on Aug. 28 after about one hour and found that he personally discharged the firearm.
The Daily Herald reported Miller pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced to 24 years, according to court records. It did not print the date of her sentence or a judge's name for it. The Scanner reported she pleaded guilty on Dec. 10, 2024, to armed robbery with a firearm, that murder counts against her were dismissed, and that the deal left the sentence to the judge in a range of six to 25 years. It reported Judge Levitt sentenced her on Sept. 15 to 24 years, that she must serve 50 percent, and that she received credit for 1,469 days. It reported her lawyer, LaTonya Burton, filed a motion on Oct. 5 asking Levitt to reconsider, and that Miller is due back Nov. 12. A motion to reconsider is not a new sentence. The Scanner's account of that motion described her children. This story does not. Tuesday's 76-year term is the judgment in Skroko's case. Miller's 24 years are the judgment in hers. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Judge Trevor McFadden took James Comey's motion to dismiss the Espionage Act information under advisement.
An information is a prosecutor's charging document. It is not a grand-jury indictment, and it is not a conviction. McFadden did not grant or deny the motion on Friday. The fight is whether filing that information on the last day of a 10-year limitations period lets the government keep seeking an indictment, and the two accounts do not print the same thing about whether prosecutors are in front of a grand jury now.

A Fifth Circuit committee ordered Judge Ada Brown to a psychiatric exam, and the council reassigned her docket.
The Sept. 29 order is an administrative reassignment under 28 U.S.C. § 332(d). It is not a medical diagnosis, and the order says it is separate from whatever the council does when the committee files its report. Judge Haynes abstained, and Chief Judge Debra Brown voted no on procedural grounds. Bloomberg Law, the ABA Journal, and Fox News identify the lawyer in the redacted hearing item as Ezra Young.

Federal prosecutors charged Hanh Minh Nguyen with animal crushing in the Santa Ana puppy case.
The federal count is a criminal complaint for animal crushing, and the Orange County counts are felony accusations. Neither is a conviction, and she has not been sentenced in either court. The District Attorney's release says the puppy was 9 weeks old and that she was arrested Thursday, Oct. 2. CBS Los Angeles says the puppy was about 9 months old and that she was arrested Oct. 1. Those ages are not the same age, and those dates are not the same date.
